Lasupperiora bridges the gap between the delicacy and subtle fruit flavours of Soracuna - Villa Calicantus' entry-level wine - and the substance and depth of Avresir, the winery's red flagship. Its vines, planted in 2010, are rooted in stony, chalky terrain in the villa's highest vineyard. Daniele Delaini is very fond of this plot of land and says that with the wine made from it he wants to ‘tell an old story that only a few people still know: of a time before mass tourism on Lake Garda and the associated invasive agricultural production focussed solely on quantity, which turned the highly elegant, playful and finesse-rich style of traditional Bardolino on its head.’
The basic ideas behind this story are as obvious as they are necessary: healthy, individually tended and organically cultivated vines, low yields (4 to 5 tonnes per hectare instead of 11 or 12) and manual labour in the vineyard and winemaking in the cellar without unnecessary manipulation. The result is complex, balanced, supple, lively, engaging and expressive.
