Georg Schmelzer is one of the most innovative and original winemakers in Austria’s natural wine scene. Not a year goes by without new ideas coming to his mind — and being promptly put into practice. One of his most charming recent creations is the Big Nature White: a white cuvée in a one-liter format that not only enlivens any celebration but is also the perfect wine for newcomers to the world of natural wine.
It is made from varieties typically found around the Golser shore of Lake Neusiedl: Scheurebe, Welschriesling, Pinot Blanc, Grüner Veltliner, and Müller-Thurgau. Only the Seihmost — the free-run juice of the grapes — is used. Fermentation occurs spontaneously, after which the wine is partly matured in stainless steel tanks and partly in large wooden casks. Before bottling, the Big Nature White is neither filtered nor sulfured.
The result is an inviting, open, juicy and vibrant wine with aromas reminiscent of citrus fruits, ripe apples, and stone fruit. A wine that is pure fun — and leaves you wanting more.
