There are white grape varieties that are best suited to classic vinification (Riesling, Sylvaner, Vernaccia, Pecorino...). Others do well both macerated and immediately pressed (Ribolla gialla, Vermentino, Timorasso, Nosiola, Fiano, Garganega...) and then there are those that only show their true colours in contact with the skins (Traminer, Pinot Grigio, Albana, Ansonica, various Trebbiano varieties). The last group also includes Malvasia di Candia Aromatica, which is as exciting when pressed straight away as a football match between Parma and Sassuolo, but is reminiscent of Juve versus Napoli when fermented on the skins.
Alberto & Giovanni Masini know this, of course, which is why they leave the Malvasia di Candia Aromatica in contact with the skins for some time for their Le Rose Frizzante. To ensure that the tannins, which tend to be high, do not have too aggressive an effect, the two do not press the wine and instead only use the freely draining juice. Le Rose is first matured in steel tanks before going into the bottle for secondary fermentation. Le Rose is not disgorged, filtered or sulphurised.
The warm orange colour is also reflected in the nose, where it is accompanied by chestnut honey notes, bread crust aromas and ripe yellow fruit. On the palate, intensity and depth are combined with light-heartedness and vitality - it is hard to believe that there is just 11% alcohol behind the very present body, but it is extremely pleasing. Le Rose develops with air and opens up to floral and fruity notes on the palate.
