One of the great wines of northern Piedmont.

A few years ago, Giacomo Colombera and Cristiano Garella discovered and leased a vineyard in Mesola, just a few kilometers from their estate in Masserano. The vines there take root in sandy porphyry soil of volcanic origin. The name “Cavazucchi” comes from the former owner.

After their first vinifications between 2019 and 2022 yielded absolutely brilliant results, the two decided to purchase the vineyard, located at 350 meters above sea level. The total area is 0.8 hectares, planted exclusively with Nebbiolo – rather unusual for the region.

The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected directly on the vine, leaving about 3,000 kilograms for production. They are destemmed and then spontaneously fermented without temperature control.

The wine then rests for over two years in wooden barrels before being bottled unfiltered, followed by another two years of bottle aging.

The result shows depth and substance, energy and power, yet remarkable finesse. Aromatically, it centers around dark red cherries, ripe citrus fruits, and ethereal as well as earthy notes.
