The Laurenc is the answer to the Caroline, the brother to the sister. In terms of grape varieties, Laurenc is quite simply Lagrein. However, nothing is really simple with Lagrein. Especially not in the vineyard, where it produces very irregular yields due to recurring fertility problems. This is the main reason why it has never made the leap beyond the local borders of South Tyrol and Trentino.
Lagrein is in many ways the opposite of Vernatsch. It is intense, expansive and powerful, and bursts with vigour and deep fruit.
In order to tame its potency a little, it requires careful care in the vineyard, a feeling for the right time to harvest and a sensible approach in the cellar.
