Tenuta Saiano
Emilia-Romagna

The Tenuta Saiano of the Maggioli family is located in Valmarecchia, in the far east of Romagna. Below it flows the Rubicon, while above it a gentle chain of hills forms the transition to Tuscany. In their vineyards, red and white grapes grow in equal measure, from which a handful of wines are produced that perfectly capture the enormous potential of Romagna.
The Tenuta Saiano of the Maggioli family is one of the most exciting agricultural projects in Romagna. It is located in Val Marecchia, in the hilly hinterland of Rimini, and offers a veritable alternative for those who want to avoid the summer madness on the city's beaches, thanks to a small B&B and a very charming environment. Associated with Tenuta Saiano are also the Osteria La Sangiovesa in Santarcangelo, which specializes in traditional local cuisine, and the associated Focacceria ViaSaffi32.
Although the focus is clearly on wine—and it is consistently high-quality—there is also olive oil, fruit, and vegetables. The farm is categorically organic, and since 2020, it has also incorporated biodynamic practices. Half of the owned land is forest.
The eight hectares of vineyards are located at an altitude of 400 to 600 meters and are influenced by both the Tuscan-Romagnol Apennines and the sea. The soil consists of clay and sand and is occasionally interspersed with chalk veins. Local (Trebbiano Romagnolo), regional (Sangiovese & Greccheto Gentile), and international grape varieties (Grenache, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon) all take root here. They are all hand-harvested, spontaneously fermented without clarification or temperature control, and aged in steel, cement, amphorae, or wood. Filtering is generally avoided, and sulfites are only used when intuition and experience dictate. The wines are clear, expressive, vertical, with depth and structure, potential, and they perfectly capture the full potential of Romagna in their range.
