Vitovska is an old variety with a young story. Since always native to Istrian-Friulan Karst, it was only slowly rediscovered in the 1980s, but was then planted out in the shortest possible time by every winegrower in the area. It is difficult to say what the long forgotten may have been around the grape variety, but somehow also significant for many autochthone varieties of the Mediterranean: it shares this fate, for example with Verdicchio and Timorasso, grape varieties that, like Vitovska, are characterized by extremely high qualities , but for a long time only in a local context.
Branko and Vasja Čotar maintain theirs Vitovskastocks in Gorjansko in Slovenian, a few kilometers from the Italian border and the sea. The terrain is special: Terra Rossa, rust -red, enforced earth by iron and lime. 8,400 sticks stand there on a total of 1.2 hectares, with each individual wearing just 600 grams of grapes. The result is highly concentrated, powerful berries, which the Čotars fermented on the shells in open wooden barrels for seven days without prior cooling and then matured for 3 years in 2000 liter oak barrels.

A color like Terra Rossa. Vital acidity meets close -meshed tannins. Čotars Vitovska demands, bundles, is pressure and a lot of fun, has a expressive aroma profile that is made up of oranges, a few red berries, earth and herbs. It is tight and yet warm in the finish (without being alcoholic).
