The Wines from H.P. Harrer
With a few exceptions, HP Harrer's vineyards are old. He prefers to lease crooked and old vines and recultivate them rather than plant young vines, with a small Neuburger vineyard breaking the rule and Furmint soon to confirm this exception. There is a twofold reason for focussing on old vines. Firstly, they produce smaller and more concentrated grapes and secondly, thanks to their deep roots, they manage without irrigation even in the often desert-like summers of recent years. In addition, his re-cultivation work also makes an important contribution to the preservation of old varieties.
