Fortuna is Luca Virgilio's crystal-clear and profound white wine made from Trebbiano abruzzese and a small proportion of Passerina. However, the terroir is at least as important as the two grape varieties in the case of Caprera, which is characterised less by the sea 30 kilometres away and more by the two mountain massifs of Gran Sasso and Majella.
Situated at an altitude of 400 metres, the vines are exposed to massive day/night differences, which are reflected in the wine's precise aromas and juicy texture. The limestone-infused soils do the rest and ensure a taut and firm structure.
The grapes for the Fortuna are usually harvested by hand in small crates in mid-September. Everything then takes place in the best artisanal manner. Fermentation is spontaneous and takes place without fermentation control, the subsequent ageing takes place calmly in steel tanks, there is as little fining as there is filtering and the use of SO2 is kept to a reasonable minimum.
After a good year in tank and bottle, the Fortuna is fresh, inviting and precise. Camomile, herbs, citrus notes and flowers characterise the aroma profile. It is well-balanced, has a tight but animating texture and finishes with precision and coolness.
