Nocenzio: A Vibrant Expression of Marche's Terroir
Cupramontana, known as the "capital" of Marchegian wine, is a region where white wines traditionally dominate, with its cool altitude and proximity to the towering Apennines. However, here in the heart of Marche, the tradition of making fresh and lively red wines, particularly those with short maceration, thrives. Corrado Dottori's Nocenzio is a prime example of this unique approach, showcasing both the power of the region’s terroir and a fresh, dynamic style of red wine.
The Nocenzio is made from a blend of Montepulciano (60%), Sangiovese (35%), and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon(5%), grown in different parcels on soils rich in clay, limestone, and white marl. The oldest vines date back to 1973, grounding the wine in the deep history of the region.
In the winery, the grapes are fermented whole—sometimes including the stems—using wild yeasts. The wine is left in contact with the skins and juice for 7-12 days before being pressed. The aging process takes place over six months in stainless steel tanks, after which the Nocenzio is bottled unfiltered and without added sulfites.
Corrado Dottori describes the Nocenzio as an agile yet expressive wine, designed to be enjoyed fresh and in large, satisfying sips.
Style
The Nocenzio immediately impresses with deep, vibrant fruit aromas. Sour cherries and forest berries lead the way, gradually enriched by notes of juniper and underbrush. It is an open and accessible wine, full of energy and vitality. Rather than a long, calm river, it moves like a dynamic, rushing stream. Its finish is juicy and fresh, leaving a lasting, lively impression.
