Corrado Dottori (La Distesa) says: "An old vineyard. The salt and light of San Michele. A long dialogue with the air. The passing of time. This is the Gli Eremi."
You could leave it at these words.
However, a few additional explanatory words wouldn't hurt. San Michele is the part of Cupramontana that has been regarded as the Grand Cru of the region since time immemorial. The vines for Gli Eremi are planted where the steep slopes gradually become flatter. The subsoil is barren and characterised by clay, limestone and gypsum veins crossing it. The Verdicchio vines were planted in 1980 and face south. The altitude ensures cooling at night. The vineyard work is done by hand and follows the needs of the individual vines. The harvest takes place in several stages. It begins in mid-September and ends at the beginning of October.
Fermentation is not interfered with. Ageing takes place over 24 months in oak barrels of various sizes, the smallest being 500 litres and the largest 1200 litres.
A wine that is made up of apparent opposites and yet results in a great whole. Power meets elegance, dynamism meets calm, vigour meets finesse. Deep flavours are embedded in a pulsating and dense texture. Inviting freshness meets plenty of substance. A wine for the coming years and decades.
