Colombera & Garella: Lessona 2020
- €34,90
With just 18 hectares of vineyards, Lessona is the smallest of the three DOC zones in which the Colomberas own vineyards. Despite its microscopic dimensions, Lessona has a few special features that set it apart from the other two regions. Firstly, there is the climate, which in some exposures takes on almost Mediterranean characteristics and ensures a somewhat warmer and stronger style in "Lessona" than in the other two wines. Secondly, the subsoil is based on marine sand deposits with pH values that are among the lowest in Italy and contain high concentrations of iron, manganese and potassium. Last but not least, the grape variety composition also differs from the directly neighbouring Bramaterra: the Nebbiolo content in Lessona must be at least 85%, the potential cuvée partners are Vespolina and Uva rara, in Colombera's case only Vespolina.
The "Lessona" is fermented spontaneously in cement cisterns and matured for two years in used French barriques.
