The Lasupperiora serves as a bridge between the delicate structure and subtle fruit aromas of Soracuna—the entry-level wine from Villa Calicantus—and the substance and depth of Avresir, the estate's flagship red. Its vines, planted in 2010, thrive in the stony, calcareous soil of the highest vineyard at Villa Calicantus. Daniele Delaini holds this parcel in high regard, aiming to craft a wine that "tells an old, almost forgotten story: a time before mass tourism at Lake Garda and the associated invasive, quantity-focused agricultural production that upended the highly elegant, playful, and refined style of traditional Bardolino."
The principles behind this story are as straightforward as they are essential: healthy, individually nurtured, organically cultivated vines, low yields (4 to 5 tons per hectare instead of 11 or 12), and meticulous manual labor in the vineyard. The winemaking process in the cellar avoids unnecessary interventions. The result is a wine that is complex, balanced, smooth, lively, captivating, and expressive.
