Silvio Messana's wines have little to do with most contemporary versions of Chianti Classico. They are radical counter-designs to a misguided idea of what defines Chianti today. He counters the soft-spoken and well-behaved versions of many winemakers, which are also often characterised by international grape varieties, with interpretations that are purist, cool and straightforward and make it clear why Chianti was the bastion of quality in Tuscany for many years - and will be again thanks to winemakers like him.
