The Rét originates from Alexander Koppitsch's Easy-Drinking-Series, which Koppitsch aficionados still remember under the name "authentic wines". Rét is Hungarian and means grassland, which in turn is a reference to the fact that cattle used to graze where Zweigelt and St. Laurent grow today.
The vines are located on a plateau about 30 metres above Lake Neusiedl. The terrain is gravelly at the top (deposits from the Danube that once flowed past here) and sandy below - warm soils that, in combination with the almost all-day sunshine, result in relatively early grape ripening.
As with all Koppitsch wines, vinification is characterised above all by the intention to translate the grapes into wine without manipulation. Fermentation takes place spontaneously with wild yeasts, ageing takes place in large wooden barrels and lasts just under a year. The wine is never fined or filtered and is only sulphurised if he believes that the wine will develop better this way.
Playful & light-hearted. The Rét belongs to the category of serious easy-drinking-wines that combine fun with substance and drinking flow with depth. The aromatic focus is on the fruit, with a subtle spiciness in the background. Refreshing and animating finish.
