The Sauvignon Blanc Graf is an example of how Sauvignon can be when you let nature have the first and last word. Not that this isn't the case with Sepp Muster's other wines. With his Sauvignon Blanc, however, it is even more noticeable, as it differs so clearly from the many versions of the variety that are usually associated with it. There are no exotic or green flavours, not too much wood and not too little substance. Rather, it is a long, calm flow, warm, deep and with a red fruit flavour, the Yangtsekiang of Styrian wine.
The vines for it grow in the centre of the Schlossberg and are now relatively old (over 20 years). The subsoil is Opok, limestone marl, which is only covered by a shallow layer of humus at this height of the Schlossberg. The influence of the nearby Koralpe is particularly noticeable on summer and early autumn nights, when the daytime temperatures drop sharply.
The rest is in the hands of Sepp Muster, who has created an environment for his vines that is biodiverse and full of life.
Warm, deep & calm, yet full of energy, tension and dynamism. Sepp Muster's Sauvignon Blanc flows calmly at first and ends in a rapids. Fine tannins and an animating acidity bundle the concentrated texture. It is aromatically wide-ranging from start to finish. Only at the beginning of its career.
