Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot and Grenache (Garnacha) - France and Spain. The two countries in Torcuato Huerta's life are also reflected in Purulio, his engaging and lively red cuvée. Torcuato was born in El Marchal, a tiny village in the east of Andalusia, but emigrated to the south of France with his parents when he was just 14 years old. This was back in the days when General Franco was wreaking havoc in Spain and Torcuato's family were on the other side of the political spectrum. They subsequently hired themselves out as farm labourers and harvest workers in the Camargue, where they dreamed of owning their own land on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada. Years later, after Franco's death, they finally realised their dream, returned home to Andalusia and began to cultivate their grandfather's old olive groves and vineyards anew, sometimes even replanting them.
The Torcuato vineyards are located at 900 and 1050 metres above sea level. While the upper of the two is located on a plateau and is therefore exposed to wind and weather, the second is situated in a sheltered hollow away from the wind - in other words, it enjoys completely different microclimatic conditions. The Purulio Tinto combines grapes from both vineyards, each of which is harvested at the right time and fermented separately.
The wine then spends a year in small wooden barrels, where it gradually finds its balance.
Powerful, dense, Mediterranean. The Purulio Tinto is one of the best entry-level wines we have ever tasted. It is balanced, juicy, spicy and complemented by herbal notes and dark fruit flavours. Drinking flow blends with depth, vitality with substance, the finish is long and full-bodied.
