The quintessence of Davide's endeavours. The grapes for the Rugoli Vecchie Vigne come from a vineyard where Garganega vines have been rooted for over 60 years. The vines are as thick as tree trunks, deeply anchored in volcanic basalt and fairly resistant to potential fungal diseases.
Small, full-bodied and aromatic grapes grow in shady pergolas, which are celebrating a remarkable renaissance due to the ever warmer climate. Davide cultivates the old vineyard according to biodynamic principles and ensures that the old vines and consequently the Vecchie Vigne will continue to exist in the future through the careful care of each individual vine.
Davide's masterpiece is not produced every year due to the weather, but when he has enough grapes for it, he ferments it spontaneously with Butz and Stingl without temperature control. After pressing, the wine is transferred to used barriques for a good year before being bottled unfiltered and unsulphurised.
Style
Ripe, yellow fruit meets nutty notes, foliage and Mediterranean herbs, with salty and floral notes on the palate. The acidity, in combination with the tannins, exerts pressure, concentrates the generally soft texture of the grape variety and ensures tension, vitality and straightforwardness. Long and persistent finish, with potential for a good decade.
