Nevio Scala

Lozzo Atestino - Veneto

Nevio Scala was a midfielder at Fiorentina and Milan and as a coach European Cup winner with Parma. After stations in Dortmund, St. Petersburg and Moscow, he became a farmer and moved from the world football fields to the grain fields and olive groves of Lozzo Atestino, the place in the Colli Euganei, in which he grew up and in which his father is already a farm and leased Had land. Nevio has now bought this and added a few hectares of forest and vineyards, in which he and his son Claudio fabriced brilliant white and sparkling wines.

Friends of the round leather probably have to get a little in their memory, but then the vague associations should slowly come together to form a picture, admittedly somewhat yellowed. Scala, would they say, was a talented player, midfield engine at Fiorentina, Milan and Foggia, when they were still playing in the first division. Really big, they would then explain it, however, he was a coach- especially at AC Parma, which he led to series A in the golden times of Italian football and with which he was winner, European Cup winner, European Cup and UEFA Cup . Later he was also at Dortmund, at Zenit St. Petersburg and Spartak Moscow and after that I don't really know what happened to him.

We know it. He became a farmer. He moved from the world's soccer fields to the grain fields and olive groves of Lozzo Atestino, the place in the Colli Eugane, in which he grew up and in which his father already had a farm and leased country. Nevio has now bought this and added a few hectares of forest and vineyards.

Winegrower

Since then, he has been hung by hand to be satisfied with the role of the former success coach and only regarded a farm and a winery as an investment and prestige object. Together with his family, he developed an ecologically and socially sustainable concept in which the respectful and responsible handling of its natural and human resources is top priority. The Scala family deals with old cereals and legumes (spelled, wheat, barley, barley, rapeseed, peas, hemp and beans), takes care of the reforestation of braiding forest areas, produced from the varieties

Marzemina, Leccino, Rasara, Frantoio and Moraiiolo an excellent olive oil and, in specially created wetland biotopes, offers an increasingly retreating fauna lifeline.

Viticulture is therefore only one aspect in the life of the Scala family, but one that is becoming increasingly important. Nevio's son Claudio, who teaches three days a week as a lecturer for pedagogy at the University of Bolzano three days a week, is also very responsible for this.

The Colli Euganei are an old wine country with a terroir that beats a bridge between northern and southern Italy than the other wine regions of the Veneto. Due to their volcanic and often strongly calcified soils, they also have their own geological profile. Optimal terrain for Garganega, the most exciting white variety of the Euganese hills and with 3.4 best hectare also the most important variety of the scalas. From this, Claudio & Nevio has been king five wines since 2016: the subtle and profound dilètto, the vibrating, lively gargante, a frizzante who has already laid the crossbar for other sparkling wines from the corner in his first year and the On the mash Fermented Còntame.

Recently there are also a red wine from Merlot and Cabernet Franc and a mash greaser. Malvasia Istriana added. Another vineyard with Turchetta, Recantina, Pataresca and Corbinona, the region's autochthonous varieties, is still waiting for its first vinification.
