Gianluca Bergianti combines old techniques in the vineyard and in the cellar with his personal - biodynamic and minimally invasive - signature. He uses local grape varieties for his wines, a lot of Lambrusco, but in the case of "Steve" the white Pignoletto. Thanks to its high basic acidity, it makes an excellent sparkling wine, which is why Gianluca - after initial, thoroughly successful still wine interpretations - has recently also dedicated a frizzante version to it.
The grapes for this are usually harvested in August, pressed without long maceration and fermented spontaneously. The finished wine then spends a few months in the tank before being bottled for secondary fermentation. This is where it remains - Gianluca does not disgorge, which in turn means that a delicate veil of yeast in the glass may cloud the eye, but the palate gains additional flavours and complexity as a result.
Style & flavours
Light-footed, graceful and full of life. Direct and animating. The "Steve" is an open and inviting wine, with a good drinking flow, a little tropical fruit and engaging freshness. On the palate - typical of Pignoletto - there is a pleasant, slightly bitter note.
