Location and Characteristics
La Perucca is a vineyard situated precisely between Barolo and Barbaresco, thus classified as a Nebbiolo d'Alba. The soil composition is predominantly clay, limestone, and sand. The planting density is 5,000 vines per hectare, with an average yield of 1 kg per vine. Planted in 1995 at an altitude of 280 meters, the vineyard has been cultivated biodynamically for several years, with a continual reduction in annual copper usage.
Vinification and Aging
Fermentation begins spontaneously with wild yeasts in stainless steel tanks, without temperature control. The wine is aged in large Slavonian oak barrels for three years, gradually achieving balance, before being bottled unfiltered. It then matures in the bottle for an additional two years.
Style
Intense, powerful, and earthy, with a blend of berries and Mediterranean herbal notes combined with dark aromas. Tannins and acidity balance each other, resulting in a dense, juicy, and textured wine with a long, persistent, and elegant finish.
