Pinot Nero has an astonishingly long tradition in the Veneto. This has a lot to do with the lively exchange between monasteries, which founded a kind of World Wine Web in the Middle Ages and brought Pinot Noir (and a few other grape varieties) from France to the most remote corners of Europe - including the Veneto, where there are several Pinot Nero enclaves today: the hills of the Brenta, a few corners of Lake Garda, Piave and also the Colli Trevigiani, where Alessandro Winkler has revisited his history and presses a brilliant rosato frizzante from the grape variety.
After being harvested by hand, the grapes were slowly and gently pressed together with the stems and fermented spontaneously. In spring, after minimal sulphurisation, the wine was bottled for secondary fermentation and released for sale after a good two years of ageing. Alessandro's Rosato frizzante is neither disgorged nor fortified and is therefore slightly cloudy and dry.
Style: Straightforward, taut, crystal clear, mineral. Animating perlage. Not an ounce too much fat on the body. Cool red berry fruit sets the aromatic tone, complemented by floral and stony notes. Has plenty of tension and energy on the palate. Ends vital and dynamic.
