Eugenio Bocchino's focus is on Nebbiolo. However, he also cultivates an excellent Barbera, which he vinifies with the same meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Barbera has all the attributes to make exceptional wines - even if there are countless examples to disprove this. Its defining and all-important characteristic is its generally high acidity. This needs to be tamed and channelled in the right direction and this is exactly what Eugenio does. Apart from the fact that he has chosen exactly the right location for them because it is sunny and loamy, he has only minimal yield expectations.
The harvest is relatively late and is limited solely to perfectly ripe grapes. He ferments them spontaneously and matures the resulting wine in large wooden barrels.
Style & flavours
Liquorice, juniper, sour cherries and earth. Eugenio's Barbera is complex, powerful and elegant at the same time, structured and juicy. It has all the attributes of a great wine and will still be going strong a decade from now.
