Like few other Italian grape varieties, Lagrein is suitable for rosati that not only want to convey freshness but also depth. The reason for this is the thick, dark, extract-rich skins, which release colour, aromas and tannins even on brief contact with the juice.
Martin Gojer's Lagrein vines are rooted in volcanic soils on the steep slopes of the Ritten. Some of them are quite old, grow in pergolas, are cultivated biodynamically and are exposed to the south. Thanks to the special, short-stemmed biotype, yields are low. Martin picks the grapes in two passes: Once when the grapes are not yet fully ripe and a second time when they are fully ripe - thus combining vitality and freshness with substance and strong fruit.
After a short intermezzo on the skins, the grapes are pressed and fermented spontaneously and without temperature control. Ageing takes place in concrete and wood. There is no filtration.
The result is dark berry, delicately spicy and herbaceous. A few citrus notes are added on the palate. The body has depth and power, but is also stringent and animating, the texture is compact and juicy. Combines the enormous substance of the grape variety with the alpine conditions of its terroir. Top.
