The Le Trame has been showing for a good two decades in which direction in the Chianti. To speak to Jonathan Nossiter's words, he is "Liquid Memory". But he is also a bridge into the future, a wine that brings together the history of a style (Chianti) and the handwriting of a great winemaker. Giovanna Morganti does not follow the guidelines of the past: For example, she dispenses with the white varieties Trebbiano and Malvasia, which were often used in Chianti. She rightly thinks that it does not need any additional fruit or structure, since she finds both in sufficient quantities in the Sangiovese anyway and Mammolo, Colorino and Foglia Tonda, Autochthone varieties that are sensory to the Chianti.
Its vines root through the bank in a stony, dominated terrain, which - strictly and straightforward - also leaves its traces in the wine. The grapes are read by hand and fermented spontaneously and in open wooden tubs. After that, the Le Trame is shipped into large wooden barrels and gets the time it needs to turn into a manifesto in his region.
Style & flavors
All four varieties leave traces, but amazing is the floral tone again and again, which is particularly thanks to the Mammolo. Cherries, earth, leather, violet and after a little bottle maturity also dark berries and pepper - there is a lot in the Le trame that is worth smelling and tasting. The aroma profile is embedded in a firmly woven tannin tap and a steering, robust but never aggressive acid structure. The body is juicy, dynamic and compact, the finish powerful and pulsating.
