The Hohenegg is steep and partly exposed vineyard from south-east to south-west. The soils are based on barren Opok, the classic limestone marl of southern Styria, and are influenced by both cool northern winds and Mediterranean air masses. The berries up there are somewhat smaller than usual and are harvested a little later.
The Sauvignon -H- was fermented spontaneously and matured in new and used, small and large wooden barrels. After two years on the lees, it was bottled unfiltered and unsulphured.
Yellow-fruity, tightly woven, mineral and powerful. Densely woven and tightly meshed, balanced and multi-layered, the Sauvignon -H- shows the full potential of a variety that far too often relies on banal flavour spectacles. The texture is juicy, animating, powerful and crystal-clear, the acidity controlling without ever coming to the fore. The finish is cool, creamy and persistent.
