Among the three dozen grape varieties cultivated in the ampelographic collection of the Valenzuela family, Viognier naturally holds its place. This is an excellent choice, as Viognier thrives when it reaches full ripeness, revealing its finest qualities. Even though Barranco Oscuro’s Viognier vineyard is situated at a lofty altitude, achieving ripeness in the Andalusian Alpujarras poses no real challenge. Moreover, the sparse, rocky soils closely resemble those of the variety’s southern French homeland.
In combination with the viticultural and oenological expertise of Lorenzo and Manuel, the result is once again a wine that fully explores the aromatic range and sensory potential of the grape. Left to the morning dew rising from the sea and the drying Andalusian sun, the vineyard's grapes undergo their transformation into wine in the cellar using Barranco Oscuro's customary minimalist approach.
Style & Aromas
Orange blossoms, cinnamon, and almonds. Velvety. Despite its opulent texture, it retains an invigorating freshness. It is well-balanced, textured, and dynamic, culminating in an impressive, finely salty finish.
