In his younger years, Georg Schmelzer was a staunch Cabernet Sauvignon fan. He belonged to the small group of winemakers who dared to place it on the varietal podium ahead of the almost sacredly revered Pinot Noir. Fully aware that Cabernet would struggle to ripen even under the warm Gols sun, he planted it on his own estate nonetheless.

Schmelzer has also held—and still holds—other opinions that don’t always fit the mainstream. For example, he believes that vineyard blends are more complex than single-vineyard wines.

This view is also reflected in his rosé. It combines vines whose roots grow in sandy soils with others that thrive in gravelly terrain or clay. The grape varieties, for once, are just two: Cabernet Sauvignon stands alongside Zweigelt in equal measure.

Vineyard work, as always, is biodynamic, and the winemaking takes place without additives, crafted to the highest artisanal standards.

Style & Aromas
Wild forest berries, juicy cherries, and fresh grapefruit. Cool, refreshing, and inviting. Uncomplicated and light-hearted. A summery rosé, wholesome and uplifting.
