One of the great red wines of Italy, of Europe, of the world. And it’s not just us who think so, but really anyone who has ever had it in their glass. It unites substance with subtlety, lightness with depth, aromatic opulence with stylistic elegance. For years—indeed decades—Granato has been a benchmark and a model; in short, one of those rare liquid masterpieces that reward patience and are worth waiting years to reach their peak.
To remove the temptation of opening it too early—and above all because they have the means to do so—the Foradori family has taken care of the aging process for their (potential) customers in their “Aged-at-the-Estate” series. With a stable cellar temperature of 10–12°C, the conditions are naturally ideal.
After nearly ten years maturing in the cool darkness underground, the 2017 Granato has now been released to retailers. It is ready to drink but—provided that storage conditions are suitable—will easily handle another ten years.
By the way, Granato owes its name neither to the grenade (which it undoubtedly is, though that word is feminine—granata—in both Italian and German) nor solely to its color, but, according to Foradori, to the fact that in the Campo Rotaliano (where its vines take root), pomegranate trees (melograno in Italian) once grew alongside the vineyards.
