Pacina "Pacina" – A Testament to Tradition and Terroir
Overview
Pacina’s “Pacina” embodies the hallmarks of a great Chianti: a blend of 95% Sangiovese with 5% Ciliegiolo and Canaiolo, cultivated on the distinctive Tufo di Siena soils of the southern region. Aged for 14 months in oak vats of varying sizes (500–2500 L) followed by additional years of bottle aging, it showcases power, balance, and a remarkable depth. The wine integrates vibrant red fruit and floral notes, epitomizing the essence of classic Chianti.
Yet, the "Pacina" is no longer classified as a Chianti. Rejecting the Chianti Consortium's increasing focus on international varieties, Giovanna and Stefano Tiezzi chose to dissociate from it, giving their flagship wine the name of their estate. This decision reflects their dedication to preserving the unique identity of Tuscan wines, a stance shared by other like-minded winemakers.
The vines for "Pacina" were planted 40 years ago at 330 meters above sea level. With 5000 vines per hectare and a yield of just 1 kg per vine, the wine achieves a profound intensity and substance. Fermented spontaneously in cement tanks, it undergoes further refinement in oak barrels of various origins and sizes.
Style
Tightly woven, substantial, and powerful, "Pacina" reveals its Riserva pedigree. Juicy, dense fruit and deep spice dominate the aroma profile, complemented by a concentrated and velvety texture that lingers warmly on the palate. This is a wine made for autumn evenings and twilight moments.
