Lagrein Rosato: A Rosé with Depth and Freshness
Few Italian grape varieties are as well-suited as Lagrein for producing rosé wines that balance freshness with depth. This is due to the thick, dark, extract-rich skins, which impart color, aroma, and tannins even with brief contact with the juice.
Martin Gojer's Lagrein vines are rooted in volcanic soils at the steep foothills of Ritten. Some of these vines are quite old, cultivated in pergolas, biodynamically farmed, and south-facing. Thanks to the unique, short-stemmed biotype, yields are low. Martin harvests in two stages: the first when the grapes are not fully ripe, and the second at full ripeness, blending vitality and freshness with substance and robust fruit.
After a brief maceration, the grapes are pressed and spontaneously fermented without temperature control. The wine is aged in concrete and wooden barrels, with no filtration.
The result is a wine with dark berry, fine spice, and herbal notes. The palate reveals additional citrus nuances. The body is deep and powerful yet precise and inviting, with a compact and juicy texture. It combines the grape’s substantial character with the alpine qualities of its terroir—truly exceptional.
