Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot, and Grenache (Garnacha) – France and Spain
The two countries in Torcuato Huerta’s life also come together in Purulio, his captivating and vibrant red blend. Torcuato was born in El Marchal, a tiny village in eastern Andalusia, but at the age of 14, he and his parents emigrated to southern France. This was during the era of General Franco in Spain, and Torcuato’s family stood on the opposite side of the political spectrum. They found work as farm laborers and harvesters in the Camargue, all the while dreaming of their own land on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada. Years later, after Franco's death, they fulfilled that dream, returning to Andalusia to revive and replant the old olive groves and vineyards of Torcuato's grandfather.
Torcuato’s vineyards are situated at altitudes of 900 and 1050 meters. The higher vineyard lies on an exposed plateau, subject to the elements, while the second is nestled in a sheltered hollow, benefiting from distinctly different microclimatic conditions. The Purulio Tinto blends grapes from both vineyards, each harvested at optimal ripeness and fermented separately. The wine is then aged for a year in small wooden barrels, where it gradually finds its balance.
Style
Powerful, dense, and Mediterranean. Purulio Tinto is among the best entry-level wines we’ve ever tasted. It is balanced, juicy, and spicy, with notes of herbs and dark fruits. Drinkability blends with depth, vitality with substance, and the finish is long and substantial.
