The intimate relationship between the Italian wine world and birds of all kinds would be worth an article. There are wineries that are named after birds (Aquila del Torre, Colomba ...), also a good dozen grape varieties (Corvina, Oseleta, Rondinella, Corvinone, Ucelut ...) and of course a few wines referring to birds Ca 'de Noci also makes his contribution. The gheppio is a falk species that occasionally also floats into the Colli di Scandiano via the winery.
The gheppio is the only red quiet wine from Ca 'de Noci. In addition to Malbo Gentile and Sgavetta, both Autochthon varieties of Emilia, the wine also includes Cabernet Sauvignon, but that will change soon. In 2015, Alberto & Giovanni Masini experienced what it means that winter in Apennine is getting warmer. At that time the Cabernet sticks were victims of the Scaphoidus Titanus, the American vineyard, which has recently been up to mischief in Emilia Romagna and consequently in a region in which it would have been too cold earlier. Why the insect chose Cabernet Sauvignon for its attacks and let Malbo Gentile and Sgavetta in peace are in the stars. The fact is, however, that Cà de Noci's excellent gheppio will do without Cabernet S. in the future (from the 2015 vintage).
The grapes of the gheppio fermented spontaneously and then mature in large wooden barrels for 36 months. As with all the wines of Ca 'de Noci, neither is beautified nor filtered and scattered.
style
Open, lively, dense and concentrated. In terms of color, it is dark like the soul of Scaphoideus Titanus, sensory berries and pepper combine, with undergrowth and earth. Three years in old wooden barrels and another year in the bottle, slowly but surely have the corners and edges that Cabernet Sauvignon delivers in a network with Malbo Gentile, but without the structure and tannin being lost. The texture is velvety and warm, the finish long, focused and spicy.
