Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc have long been at home in the Colli Euganei. They were introduced to the volcanic hills south-west of Padua either by Italian day labourers who helped out with the grape harvest in Bordeaux for little money back in the 19th century, or - the stories vary in this respect - by the once aristocratic owners of Castello di Lispida (still an excellent vineyard in the area today), who were apparently in active contact with some Bordeaux winegrowing families.
We can therefore confidently speak of two traditional grape varieties from which Elisa Carpanese makes her excellent cuvée. Fermented spontaneously and bottled unfiltered after a good year in cement, it offers cool and precise fruit flavours and a delicate, never overpowering spiciness on the nose. On the palate, crumbly tannins in combination with a present but well-balanced acidity set the tone. The body is light-footed and at the same time deep, the finish animating, delicate and dynamic.
